Arachnion album |
The granular puffballs interior has a grainy look and texture. This is because it is made up of thousands of small spore producing sacks called peridioles. These spore packets mature within the fruit body and are dispersed when the outer layer of the puffball (peridium) deteriorates. These collections were found in an urban setting growing in grassy areas on disturbed ground. |
Specimens at different levels of maturity. Interior goes from white when young to yellow, and then gray and black when older. |
Small round spores are produced on extraordinarily long sterigma. |
A single peridiole filled with spores. |
