This example of Berkeley's polypore fruited in early September; McCormick's Creek State Park, Owen county. Growing at the base of a very large oak tree (10 foot girth; probably over 100 years old). This fungus is a tree pathogen and likes to eat tree roots and wood at the base of living trees. |
