Found growing from well rotted oak log in July. This prime
example of
Callistosporium purpureomarginatum shows the
extraordinary coloration this mushroom can exhibit. Note purple
band around the cap margin, reddish/purple gill edges and the
yellow stem. White spore print. Cap 3cm.
These young specimens do not show the vivid coloration of the more mature
example shown above. Reddish/purple gill edges apparent. Small cap 1.5cm.
Rain soaked Callistosporium purpureomarginatum. Note well defined
purple cap margin and the white gills.
