The two collections presented here (light brown cap/white-gray cap)
differed in habitat. Or, they could be different species. A small, fragile ink
cap mushroom,
Coprinellus disseminatus often grows at the base of
dead trees and around old stumps. Can be found in dense clusters of
hundreds of mushrooms.Cap usually no larger than 2 cm.
Gills are white when young, blackening with age from black spores.
Coprinellus disseminatus is covered in fine fuzz when young. Cap
margin grooved. These tiny examples are less than 1 cm wide.
