An oddly colored collection, perhaps due to its odd habitat: red-dyed
garden mulch.
Hohenbuehelia mastrucata is usually some tone of grey.
Caps are 2-7 cm wide. Note cross section showing the unique gelatinous
layer that runs through the upper cap of this mushroom.
Lanceolate (tapered to a point), thick walled pleurocystidia amongst the
spore producing cells of
Hohenbuehelia mastrucata. Pleurocystidia up to
100 x 20 microns and smaller.
Clamp connections present.
Spores are elliptical and smooth,
measuring 7-9 x 4-5.5 microns

These specimens were growing from a rotting
hardwood log at Shades State Park in August.
